Our treatment rooms are kept quiet, bright and free of clutter.
  • Unhurried visits

Appointments are booked with room to talk, examine and explain without watching the clock.

  • Gentle by default

Numbing, pauses and breaks are offered as standard, not as something you have to ask for.

  • Plain-language plans

Every recommendation comes with the reason behind it and the option of doing nothing yet.

Our approach

Dentistry that explains itself before it treats.

Fern Roam began with a simple idea: most people do not avoid the dentist because of teeth, they avoid it because of surprises. So we built the practice around removing them.

Your first appointment is a conversation as much as an examination. We look, we photograph what we find, and we show you on screen before anything is suggested. Nothing is booked in the same breath as it is recommended.

  • We show you what we seeIntra-oral photographs and findings reviewed together, on screen, in your own appointment.
  • Costs before consentA written estimate for anything beyond an examination, given to you before you decide.
  • A signal to stopAgree a hand signal at the start of treatment; when you raise it, we stop immediately.
  • Prevention firstWhere watching and cleaning will do, we watch and clean rather than drill.

Treatments

Everyday care, restorative work and gentle first visits.

A general practice list, kept deliberately short. If something you need is not here, ask in your enquiry and we will tell you honestly whether we are the right practice for it.

  • Examinations

A full look at teeth, gums, bite and soft tissues, with photographs and a written summary of findings.

  • Hygiene & gum care

Scaling, polishing and practical cleaning coaching for the spots your brush keeps missing.

  • Fillings

Tooth-coloured repairs matched to the shade of the tooth, with numbing offered as standard.

  • Crowns & onlays

Rebuilding worn or cracked teeth so they take pressure again, planned over two calm visits.

  • Whitening

Custom trays and a measured gel schedule you use at home, reviewed with us as you go.

  • Children's visits

Short, friendly appointments built around counting, looking and cleaning before anything else.

Your first visit

Three steps, and nothing happens without your word.

A first appointment at Fern Roam takes about forty minutes. Most of it is talking and looking.

  1. 01

    Sit and talk

We go through your history, what has worried you before and how you would like to be treated in the chair.

  2. 02

    Look and photograph

A gentle examination of teeth, gums and bite. Anything we find is photographed and shown to you on screen.

  3. 03

    Decide together

You leave with written findings, an estimate if treatment is suggested, and no appointment booked unless you want one.

Care team

The two people you will see most.

A small team on purpose, so the person who examined you last time is the person who remembers you this time.

  • A dentist in a white coat and face mask standing in a bright clinical room

    Maren Ilsley

    Principal Dentist

Maren leads examinations and restorative work at the studio, with a particular interest in patients who have put off dental care for a long time. She is the one who insists on the hand signal.

  • A clinician in scrubs with a stethoscope, photographed in a calm consulting room

    Devan Hollis

    Dental Hygienist

Devan runs hygiene appointments and gum care, and spends as much of each visit on technique as on cleaning — usually with a mirror in your hand rather than his.

Questions

The things people ask before they book.

I am genuinely nervous. What can you do?

Tell us in your enquiry and we will book you a longer first slot at a quieter time of day. You are welcome to come in, sit in the room and leave again without any examination at all — plenty of people start that way. In the chair we agree a hand signal before we begin, and raising it stops everything on the spot.

How are children's appointments handled?

Short and uneventful by design. Early visits are mostly looking, counting teeth and a polish if your child is happy with it, with you beside the chair throughout. We would rather a child leaves having enjoyed a nothing-appointment than sits through one treatment too soon.

Will I know what things cost?

Yes, before you agree to anything. An examination is quoted when you book, and any treatment that follows comes as a written estimate listing each item, with the option to take it away and think. We will not ask you to consent to work priced on the day of treatment.

Can you take over my care from another practice?

Of course. Request a first appointment as normal and mention your previous practice in the notes; we will ask you to sign a short records request so any recent radiographs and treatment history can follow you over, which usually saves repeating images.

What if I need to cancel or rearrange?

Let us know as early as you can and we will move you to the next suitable slot. We hold a short standby list for people waiting on hygiene and examination appointments, so a cancellation given in good time almost always finds someone grateful for it.

Book a visit

Request an appointment.

Send a few details and we will come back with two or three times that fit. New patients are always offered a longer first slot.

We reply to appointment requests in the order they arrive and use your details only to arrange your visit. If something is painful today, say so in the notes and we will look at urgent slots first.
